The 2010 Commonwealth Games are the 19th Commonwealth Games which will be held in Delhi. Delhi, the capital of India is rich in culture and history. These Commonwealth Games are the sports event organized in every 4 years which welcomes athletes from all over the world. The Commonwealth games will be the largest multi-sport event conducted in New Delhi. The opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games is planned to held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. It will be the for the first time that the Commonwealth Games is going to be held in India and the 2nd time in Asia.

Initially this games in identified as the British Empire Games, which was held in year 1930. Later the name changed to British Empire and Commonwealth Games in the year 1954, than to British Commonwealth Games in the year 1978 and finally the current name of the Commonwealth Games in the year 1978.

The Commonwealth Games are played by the individual teams of 4 constituent countries of the United Kingdom i.e. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. British Crown Dependencies i.e. Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man and many other territories. There are presently 53 Commonwealth nations and 71 participating teams. There are about 269 events in 17 disciplines are going to be held in Commonwealth Games.

In Commonwealth Games 2010 presently around 5,000 athletes will participate, which makes it one of the biggest international sporting events. Only 6 teams have accompanied every Commonwealth Games: Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales. The suggested dates for the Games are 3 - 14 October 2010. The Opening ceremony will be on 3rd October and Closing Ceremony on 14th October.
Existing and new stadium will be used to house the following sports:

Aquatics, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
Delhi gained the right to host the Commonwealth Games 2010 by defeating the Canadian city of Hamilton by 46 votes to 22 at the CGF General Assembly held in Montego Bay in November 2003.
The amount figured for entertaining the Commonwealth Games is US$ 1.6 billion and this amount omits non-sports-related infrastructure development in the city like airports, roads and other structures. This will likely make the 2010 Commonwealth Games the most high-priced Commonwealth Games ever, being larger than the previous games hosted by Melbourne 2006 which is US$ 1.1 billion approx.
