The University of Delhi is a fundamental university located in Delhi the capital of India, and is financed by Indian Government. Delhi University is one of the best universities providing higher education in India to all its students from different states as well as from all over the world.The Delhi University was founded in 1922. It provides various courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate level. The Chancellor of the university is Mohammad Hamid Ansari. The University commences with only 3 colleges, 2 faculties of Arts and Science and around 750 students. In 1942 the college which proceeded firstly to the campus was St Stephen's, which is than followed by Hindu, Ramjas and Commerce College. 25 years later the golden jubilee in 1973 were attended by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Satyajit Ray, Amrita Pritam and M S Subbulakshmi. The National flag was hoisted for the first time in the main building by VKRV Rao.
Over the past 7 decades the Delhi University has originated into one of the largest universities in India. Today, there are 14 faculties, 86 departments and 79 colleges with about 220,000 students spread all over the city.
The Delhi University has two Campuses, the North Campus and the South Campus. They are at Civil Lines and Satya Niketan areas respectively. The Delhi University also conducts various extra curricular activities for the development of its students. There are sports and inter-college, debate and elocution competitions.
The South Campus of Delhi University was founded in 1973 for the convenience of students residing in South Delhi. In 1984 the South Campus was shifted to Benito Juarez Road, near Dhaula Kuan.
